Overview
It seems that Jake Paul has found his new opponent after the cancelations of his last two fights. The YouTuber is finally scheduled to fight again in October and won’t have to do it against a boxer, but will face an MMA legend.
Rahman and Fury fights called off
Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and a UK reality star, was originally scheduled to fight with the Paul Brothers on August 6th. The fight was cancelled, however, after Fury had visa problems and was denied entry into the United States in early July.
Another bout with Rahman was scheduled, but they did not make weight by the weigh-in. Rahman is not sure why his fight didn’t happen, though.
Anderson Silva, a Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter who has fought throughout the UFC for more than a decade, is reportedly set to fight Paul. He was in the headlines at the end of his career as one of the few fighters that have won titles in both weight classes while also running through Middleweight class.
Silva one of best ever in UFC
In the span of eight consecutive years, he won the UFC Middleweight title 16 times in a row.
His skill with Muay Thai, taekwondo, and boxing meant that he was a perfect athlete capable of locking up any opponent. His versatility as an athlete made him a great fighter regardless of the circumstances.
Silva made his debut years before he had other successes in the UFC. His first fight came in 1998 when he stepped into the ring to take on Osmar Luiz Texeira in Brasil. That would be his only loss as a boxer, with him losing by technical knockout at the start of the first round.
“The Spider” is 3-1 in boxing career
He then started mixed martial arts fighting in Pride Fighting Championships and Cage Rage. He would fight his next boxing match in 2005, when he was the Middleweight Champion of UFC. His second fight was against Julio Cesar De Jesus in Salvador, Brazil, and he would win at the Cruiserweight Division.
After achieving his UFC stardom in Brazil, the Brazilian retired from fighting and had his third professional fight in Mexico. He won the fight by split decision after eight rounds in front of a crowd of 32,000 people.
Later that year, Silva would meet another UFC legend, Tito Ortiz. The two met in a heavyweight match and Silva knocked Ortiz out in the first round to improve his record to 3-1.
There is no official date of the fight against Paul, but it will surely be one of the most anticipated fights of Paul’s career. Paul is 5-0 since turning pro after beating Ali Eson Gib, Nate Robinson, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley twice.
