Gunther is said to be going up against Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam 2023 to defend his Intercontinental Championship. If that is true, The Ring General might lose his title to The Scottish Warrior if Giovanni Vinci turns against him during the match.

For those who don’t know, the Stamford-based company gave a hint about Vinci being kicked out of Imperium on the most recent show of WWE RAW. Matt Riddle and Drew McIntyre took on Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci in a tag team match on the show.

But the Imperium pair wasn’t able to beat the babyfaces. In the last few seconds of the fight, McIntyre hit Vinci with a devastating Claymore Kick and then held him down.

After that, Gunther and Kaiser left their buddy behind. Given how things went, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that WWE set things up so that the former NXT Champions would be kicked out of the heel group.

The company could have Giovanni Vinci desert Gunther at the Biggest WWE Event of the Summer to get back at him for leaving him.

The creative team could have the 12-year veteran make himself known during The Ring General’s possible match against McIntyre at the Premium Live Event, which would cost The Ring General the Intercontinental Title.

Imperium’s time on WWE’s main roster has been average.

As a singles star on the main squad, Gunther’s career has taken off, but the same can’t be said for the other members of Imperium. The Ring General, Giovanni Vinci, and Lugwig Kaiser have been a team on the main list, but they haven’t really stood out.

Recent episodes of Imperium have been met with mixed reactions from fans and reviewers alike. Jim Cornette is a wrestling veteran who thinks that the heel team can’t be taken seriously because they never beat anyone up.

Cornette said on Jim Cornette’s Drive-thru podcast:

“They’re presented as the flunkies that people just dispatch and they pull legs and interfere but you can’t take them seriously and if they come out and don’t beat anybody up even with Gunther… then it’s a fu**ing six-man tag and they only got four men.”

Only time will tell what comes next for the heel faction.

Do you think the same way as Jim Cornette? Also, should Gunther lose the Intercontinental Championship at the biggest WWE event of the summer? Tell us what you think in the area below.
