This week, during an interview onThe Bump show, Cody Rhodes stated that his appearance on Raw was not scripted.
Rhodes discussed the defeat of his dad Dusty Rhodes. He was not able to claim WWWF Title in 1977 from Superstar Billy Graham because he had to be counted out. Rhodes later stated that his aim was to achieve the things his father was unable to do and to take home his own WWE Championship.
Although it’s obvious that much of the things Cody spoke about during his interview were true to Cody. However, there is a variety of reports on the scripted/unscripted nature of the promo. Cody discussed the complicated aspects of his WWE contract. It is believed that the ability to keep his music for his entrance and the look the way he did during his time in AEW was part of the bargain that enticed the contract signed by WWE however it doesn’t seem like he’s got complete freedom with his microphone.
A member of the Raw writer team said that what Cody spoke about during Monday’s interview was “100 percent recorded.” The team’s creative member has been reported to have stated:
Cody’s promo was scripted and was approved by Vince the following Friday.
It was reported that the promo was written up to the pause, before the question “or did you do it?” and that Vince McMahon provided notes to the script on the handshake that he made with Seth Rollins. The notes contained details about the person who should extend their hand first.
Based on what was discussed it’s evident it’s clear Cody was given lots of ideas on what the topic could be discussed, however, at the moment it’s not clear if Vince is ready to grant the ultimate creative control to his promotions.
