From the age of 18, Larratt was one of the most successful professional arm wrestlers in Canada. Sponsorships and accolades followed his tremendous success, while he served full-time in the Canadian armed forces. In 2008,
Larratt became the heavyweight world champion for right hands and in 2010, he became the heavyweight champion for left hands as well as holding both titles simultaneously.
Larratt has won 54 out of 63 of the major matches he’s competed in since 1999. He’s also often been awarded the right and left hand champion titles in the process. Larratt currently holds the “legacy hammer,” a trophy that seals his status as the best arm wrestler in the world.
Although Devon Larratt’s fame has been on the rise for the last few years, he started his YouTube channel in 2009 to help raise awareness about wakeboarding and skateboarding. He currently has 464,000 followers which is almost quadruple what it was in 2019.
“Arm wrestling has always been around – it’s like cockroaches or mushrooms,” says Larratt who is now retired from the armed forces and a full-time arm wrestler based in Ottawa, Canada. He explains that drones have also helped boost popularity on YouTube, as there have been “an appetite” for arm wrestling videos on the site this year.
