Felice Herrig knew that she wouldn’t be able to make her living as a professional fighter the way she used to.
Because fighters are paid only when they have a fight, and fighters take time off often to generate more, this 37-year-old veteran understands that she is going to lose financially because of her time after her last title fight.
In the aftermath of her layoff, Herrig discovered an alternative way to maintain her income.
Just like many fighters have been doing in recent years, Herrig created her own only fans page. This was an adult-oriented subscription website where fans pay fees for access to photos and videos. This allowed her to get ready and rest when she needed more time and be more confident in fighting in the future.
“It’s unfortunate to do anything out of desperation,” Herrig said on The Fighter vs. The Writer. “And a lot of fighters would do that for so long because that’s what you see them doing in their career. That’s why you see fighters coming back from injuries too soon.”
Ronda Rousey shared what would have happened if she wasn’t able to supplement her income from fight promotion through an online crowd funding platform that allows fans to directly sponsor their favorite fighters. She said the injury helped her become more disciplined and stay on the path of success in other aspects of life, like fighting.
