Previously, the WWE Universe has bemoaned the lack of direction for the promotion’s tag team division and this has been related to a lack of utilization of tag teams.
Prominent wrestlers in the company allude to the fact that there are talented, if not highly talented, wrestlers that have never been able to lead a tag team.
The Attitude Era helped to create legendary teams such as The Dudley Boyz, the Hardys, and The New Outlaws.
It also made tag team wrestling popular during a time when the “golden age” of jtage tag team wrestling boasted the likes of the Hart Foundation, the Rockers, and the Brain Busters.
#1 – Permanently unify the WWE Tag Team Championships
In this current time in the WWE, both members of The Usos are a champion on both SmackDown and Raw. There is no need for The Men’s and Women’s Championships to be split because their current reign proves that the men have been better than any other.
#2 – Talent Raids
Because sports entertainment as a whole is based on competition, it stands to reason that AEW has the deepest talent roster in the US.
The WWE, like AEW has done with Cody Rhodes, are not above poaching their talent. All Elite Wrestling and IMPACT Wrestling have a lot of tag team talent so the WWE will pull them out of the league to help improve their roster.
It would be interesting to have the Lucha Brothers and the Briscoes as a team in WWE. They can also be very different from what we see when wrestlers like The Undertaker and Sting wrestle.
#3 – Bring back some legendary teams, even if it’s just for a short angle
Some members of the audience are tired of seeing WWE rely on former wrestlers to rehash their impeccable legacies, if done correctly, the strategy could be effective.
Teams from the past could be re-introduced, their history explained, and then have them start a storyline for the championships. It has been done before, but usually in the short term or for ‘one-night-only’ events.
A team of HOF wrestlers returning for a week would help add prestige to the division. A feud between a modern day team and a team of HOFers could only help to elevate the quality of the current talent.
#4 – Some type of specialty match that is strictly for tag team title matches
Much like IMPACT Wrestling created the Ultimate-X match that became a series of title defenses, WWE could also come up with a concept in the same way.
With this type of content, you can give your audience a different kind of event which can be seen as another special one, much like Money in the Bank and Royal Rumble are for in-ring competitors.
This could potentially get fans to sit up and take notice, something which is innovative.
#5 – Establish a few more teams that won’t split up
In WWE, the Usos and The New Day are probably at the most stable of all pairings. That doesn’t mean they can’t split up or fight, but they’re the only two teams that should be in each other’s sights right now.
Even the highly unpopular G. 205 has been rumored to be on the verge of splitting up due to lack of success and unhappiness with their circumstances.
Some other teams have not yet established themselves in a way that allows them to move up, so there is still hope for becoming legends
The promotion needs to assemble 2-3 more teams now that have developed over time. The task may be long and winding, but the effort will be worth it in the end.
