Background:
In February 2021, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) announced plans for a joint pay-per-view event. However, AEW founder Tony Khan and NJPW president Takami Ohbari were set to make the announcement themselves in May 2022 on the monthly Japanese television show Dynamite. Adam Cole pushed through to announce that the two promotions would be holding a joint pay-per-view with WWE‘s United Center in Chicago on June 26th. Pre-sale tickets were made available in May when pre-sale tickets sold out in 40 minutes — more than 11,000 tickets were sold.
