CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — Two students, one attending Westlake High School and the other from La Plata High School, face charges after bringing cannabis onto school property.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office reports that on March 18, cannabis was seized from a student at Westlake High School. The next day, March 19, authorities discovered cannabis in possession of a La Plata High School student.

The incident at La Plata High School began when a school administrator detected the odor of cannabis emanating from a backpack left on a school bus by the student. After the bus driver returned the backpack, a search revealed a bag of cannabis inside.
