In the world of WWE, backstage tensions and conflicts are not uncommon, and they can involve both current Superstars and retired legends. Recently, WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER revealed that he has genuine tension with WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart, shedding light on a less amicable relationship between the two.
Tension in the Locker Room: GUNTHER’s Dispute with Bret Hart
WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER, known for his in-ring prowess and leadership as part of the faction Imperium, opened up about his less-than-friendly relationship with Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart. While this tension won’t manifest in a physical confrontation inside the ring, it has led to Hart expressing his opinions on social media and in interviews.
GUNTHER recently made an appearance on WWE’s “The Bump” alongside fellow Imperium member Ludwig Kaiser. During their discussion, they covered various topics, including GUNTHER’s title reign, the dominance of their faction, and their camaraderie as wrestlers. Toward the end of the segment, the hosts inquired about their opinions on former Intercontinental Champions, which led to the revelation about the discord with Bret Hart.
Bret Hart’s Critique and GUNTHER’s Response
When the topic of former Intercontinental Champions came up, Bret Hart’s name entered the conversation. GUNTHER, maintaining his character and embodying the persona of the Ring General, acknowledged Bret Hart’s wrestling skills and popularity, especially in Germany and Austria. However, things took a turn when GUNTHER revealed that Hart had expressed his displeasure with certain aspects of GUNTHER’s match against Sheamus. The Imperium leader made it abundantly clear that he had not forgotten these comments, and he didn’t wish to discuss the Hitman any further.

GUNTHER stated, “I think it is obvious that in-ring, he is one of the best to ever do it. Very enjoyable. He was very popular in Germany and Austria when I was growing up. He was a big superstar there. But as Ludwig said before, I don’t forget. And [what] that man said at my match in Cardiff and was not mentioning nice things after that. So, he is not going to get anything nice from me. Too bad he is not in the state anymore to settle this in the ring. It would have been very interesting.”
The Fallout from Recent RAW Events
In the most recent episode of Monday Night RAW, a Fatal Four-Way Match took place to determine the next challenger for GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Championship. The match included The Miz, Ricochet, Ivar, and Bronson Reed, all vying for the opportunity to contend for the prestigious title. However, a botched finish led to WWE changing its plans for the upcoming RAW.
As for the future, it appears that both Ivar and The Miz will be battling GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series. The WWE universe awaits to see how this unfolds and whether The Ring General can maintain his title reign.
