Rumors started swirling after Rhodes was taken off the WWE live event on June 4th in Champaign, Illinois. Many fans were left wondering what happened to Rhodes and if he would be able to compete at last night’s premium live event.
Weeks ahead of Hell In A Cell, WWE confirmed that Rhodes had torn his pectoral muscle while training last week and was also adamant about participating. WWE’s update also noted that Rhodes had torn his pectoral completely off the bone. While this sounded horrible, fans did not fully understand the extent of the injury until after the match when Steve took off his jacket and revealed mass amounts of bruising on the right side of his chest.
Rhodes fought in a 20+ minute Hell In A Cell match with Rollins and won the match. After the show, Rhodes addressed the audience letting them know it was his decision to wrestle and that he will give an update on his injury tonight during “WWE Raw.”
