We can now look forward to the future of Monday Night Raw now that the WWE Draft is over. At the Night of Champions event on May 27, 2023, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, WWE will crown a new world heavyweight champion. No details have been revealed yet regarding the tournament, which will take place at the aforementioned event. WWE announced on Friday Night SmackDown that it would hold a tournament.
Who will be the first to win this newly created championship? It might not be Roman Reigns, but everyone else seems fair game.
Our thoughts are as follows:
Geno Mrosko: Did you hear how Dominik Mysterio was reacted to on Monday Night Raw? It’s just the way things go nowadays. He is a heat magnet like we rarely get anymore in pro wrestling. Why not take advantage of that and give him the world title he deserves?
I think the more important question is whether he’s “ready” for that? The answer is “no,” since what really matters is how a wrestler makes you feel.We all know Dom is only a secondary title anyway, so let’s have some fun with it and make him even bigger. It’s so unbelievably fun to hate Dom, but it would be even more fun to be upset because he’s the world champion.
Also, how much of a power couple would Rhea Ripley and Dom Mysterio make on Raw? Book it, you cowards!
In 2021, Xavier Woods beat Roman (by DQ, but who cares). WWE may want us to forget, but the truly positive among us will never forget it. Additionally, crowning the veteran and making all three members of The New Day a World Champion will be such a cool experience that no one will even remember the new belt as a “consolation prize” for a while.
Seth Rollins is pretty much the most likely candidate. Through the draft, they have put together a pretty strong main event scene with Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens. Unfortunately, all of those guys lost to Roman Reigns. Thus, the first person to hold this title should not be one who has already failed to defeat Roman for it. the title as the runner up title. Seth Rollins, who is performing at his best, is left to a great deal.
It has to be Seth Rollins, as he is the one who has really been carrying Raw for the past year. Although that may be a bit boring, Cody Rhodes might make an interesting choice too! He certainly has unfinished business in the form of his father’s story, and the new WHC could be seen as a way for him to recreate the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Having him cut a promo connecting these two together would definitely bring some drama and excitement.
The one clear choice for me is Vince coming back to control the show. It means having a heel champion with some real credibility – and I know Geno might not like it, but Johnny Gargano has to be it. He’s become an icon in WWN, he’s been DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate Champion for 873 days and he loves being the jerk who cuts down heroes and grins asking if you liked the show!
(But it should really be Seth.)
During the draft, Raw’s nameless decision-makers somehow missed LA Knight multiple times. The megastar will make amends for their incomprehensible error in judgment by entering this tournament, defeating Brock Lesnar in the finals in Saudi Arabia, and returning to Raw as a workhorse champion you can be proud of. Yeah.
I’ll go out on a limb here and suggest Finn Balor. Before you clutch pearls or pitchforks, I do believe there is some symmetry here.
Finn never got the true chance to display his capability with the Universal Championship, however not long after holding it he was injured and forced out of action for a while. He returned to the WWE main roster and afterwards went back to NXT to regain his confidence. Now he is a part of Judgment Day, which seems to be always in the middle of WWE’s most contentious storylines – their unofficial leader as Rhea Ripley currently holds a championship. Not only that, but at WrestleMania we all saw Finn take 14 stitches to his head after being split open by a ladder – and yet still kept going. He unequivocally deserves more than just mere words of congratulations for his immense bravery.
In Judgment Day, Damian is in a heated feud with a world-class musician. Mami has a championship, and Dom is arguably WWE’s most hated character. With Finn as the inaugural title holder, they cement their position as a group while setting up several feuds that could involve Seth, Cody, or any other new face on Raw. As the Prince finally gets the chance to do what eluded him so many years ago, let them chase each other.
