When ROH first announced that they were taking a break for the initial quarter of 2022. People thought that The Briscoes might be moving to AEW. However, it didn’t happen.
This week, the news revealed that AEW had no intention of signing The Briscoes. Because a person of influence in WarnerMedia reportedly didn’t want the tag team to be part of the promotion due to Jay Briscoe’s homophobic tweets from 2013.
Jay expressed his opinion on the report and his previous tweets in a recent interview on the Battleground podcast. He said:
I want to say, thank you to the people who really know…we get labeled as homophobes. I put out a stupid tweet nine years ago, the most dumbest, immature, obnoxious sh** I’ve ever done. I don’t want anybody, from any walk of life, to feel like they can’t care for the Briscoes because I promise we love everybody. We love everybody and we just want to go out there and be pro wrestlers and give the best match that we can. I said some dumb sh** a long time ago, I apologized for it and I’ll apologize for it again. It was stupid.
Jay continued to say that he thinks some people stare at them and believe they aren’t able to support the team. Because they are against a certain segment of the population. Jay stated that they don’t have a hatred for anyone, and they love everybody. He thought he was taking a stand for the Lord in 2013. He added:
They realized from being more mature that God has love for everybody and that card trumps anything else.
Their past stance was counterproductive to the kingdom of God.
The Briscoes are the reigning ROH Tag Team Champions. They will play at the ROH Supercard of Honor. In the last month, ROH was bought by AEW president Tony Khan.
