Former MMA fighter Phil Baroni has been arrested in Mexico and charged with murdering his girlfriend.
On Monday, Tribuna De La Bahia reported the arrest.
In San Pancho, Baroni, 46, allegedly killed his girlfriend, according to Tribuna De La Bahia.
The police were patrolling the neighborhood when Baroni reported that his girlfriend was unconscious and needed assistance.
The police found a naked woman lying on a bed covered with a bed sheet. Upon further examination, they found bruises on her face and body consistent with punches.
According to Baroni, his girlfriend, Paola, 46, revealed to him around 3pm that she had cheated on him with another man while smoking marijuana and drinking beer. When he demanded she shower, Paola refused.
In the shower, he allegedly threw her, causing her to fall and hit her head. Baroni said he helped her back up and helped her to the bed, where she asked for a sheet since she was cold. He then got her cigarettes and beer.
After returning home, he laid down with her in bed and realized she was unconscious. He attempted to wake her up, but she was unconscious.
The State Tourist Police arrested Baroni and he is being held by the Municipal Court of Valle de Banderas.
Observando En La Bahia has released photos of Baroni speaking to police.
Currently, Baroni is under investigation, and the identification of the victim is pending an autopsy and notification of next of kin.
Baroni fought under the banners of the UFC, Bellator, and ONE Championship before retiring in 2019. His last match was a boxing match in Mexico in Dec 2021.
Recently, Baroni tweeted that he lived in Mexico.
