There aren’t many people who have a winning record against Brock Lesnar, but there is one man who has only lost to The Beast Incarnate once and should be his last opponent in WWE.
Rob Van Dam is the star in question. On August 2, he made his first appearance for All Elite Wrestling on the 200th episode of Dynamite. The next week, he went on to fight Jack Perry for the FTW Championship, but in the end, he lost.
Brock and RVD haven’t fought against each other in over 20 years. The last time they did was at the Vengeance pay-per-view in July 2002. But some people are going to wonder how Rob has done so well against Lesnar, so let’s explain.
Brock Lesnar and RVD met in the final of that year’s King of the Ring pay-per-view competition, which Brock won. At the time, Van Dam was the WWE Intercontinental Champion. After losing the title, the two fought over the belt until the Vengeance PPV the following month.

Brock and Rob fought at six house shows and on RAW the night after King of the Ring to get ready for this event. Each time, Van Dam won by disqualification, which meant he kept the belt and still made Brock look strong. This was also how their Vengeance match ended.

RVD would be a great choice for Brock’s last match because he has a good record against Lesnar and WrestleMania 40 is in Philadelphia, which is where ECW is based. Both RVD and Brock can perform at the highest level, they’ve worked together for a long time, and Paul Heyman has a history with both RVD and Brock.

Brock Lesnar’s hometown might be hosting WrestleMania 41, but if he doesn’t want to fight anymore, it might be better for him to be inducted into the Hall of Fame that year and have a retirement match the year before.
Even though it sounds like a stretch, it is true. Brock Lesnar’s only win over Rob Van Dam has something to do with RVD’s short cameos in All Elite Wrestling.
The connection is that the August 9th AEW Dynamite, which was the night Rob fought Jack Perry for the FTW Champion, took place in the same arena as the 2002 King of the Ring pay-per-view, which was the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

As another link between the two shows, the King of the Ring event started with RVD wrestling Chris Jericho, who also appeared on the August 9 episode of Dynamite as part of the Jericho Appreciation Society meeting section.
