Whatever way one slices it, last night’s “Raw Is XXX” edition of “WWE Raw” was an important show for the company, featuring several big moments and a cast of legends that will undoubtedly lead directly into the Royal Rumble this weekend, and perhaps even WrestleMania next April. According to a statement posted on WWE‘s website, “Raw Is XXX” was also a huge financial hit.
“Raw XXX was a defining night for the red brand and delivered the highest domestic gate in the history of Monday Night Raw,” the statement read. “A sell-out crowd at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia witnessed Sami Zayn’s Tribal Court, an iconic moment shared between Bray Wyatt and The Undertaker, a joining of DX and Kurt Angle, the return of The Beast Brock Lesnar and much more. Thank you WWE Universe for an unforgettable Raw XXX!”.Although WWE announced over 16,000 fans attended “Raw” last night, WrestleTix estimated closer to 14,500 fans attended, though they confirmed a sell-out.
It is likely that WWE will take this newly broken record as good news after weeks of backstage turmoil following Vince McMahon’s return to power. In the aftermath of McMahon’s reemergence on WWE‘s board of directors, several notable WWE executives, including Stephanie McMahon, have left and resigned, spurring speculation that McMahon will take control of WWE TV again.
