Rick Boogs Amateur wrestling career
After winning a state title as a high school wrestler, Bugenhagen went on to wrestle for the University of Wisconsin, who had Barry Davis as their coach. He competed for the Wisconsin Badgers from 2006 to 2011, starting at 184 pounds in his sophomore season and at heavyweight his junior and senior years. Bugenhagen competed in the NCAA Championships, twice qualifying for the 2010 and 2011 tournaments in Omaha, Nebraska, and Philadelphia. He went 2-4 at the NCAAs and also wrestled in a U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier. After graduating he worked as a wrestling coach for his alma mater after graduating.
Rick Boogs Professional wrestling career
Ric Boog made his wrestling debut on the October 19, 2017 episode of WWE NXT Live, where he fell short to Lars Sullivan in a singles match. After an injury set him back significantly, he returned to wrestling at NXT live events as Ric Bugenhagen. In real life, Bugenhagen lost to Drew Gulak on February 6, 2019 on NXT in his TV debut. On the May 1st episode of WWE Worlds Collide he fought 20 men and the winner Roderick Strong in a battle royal that took place on the March 12th episode of Raw. On February 21st and 22nd of 2019 he teamed up with Erik Dejournette and failed to beat Finn Balor and Jimmy Havoc respectively while also taking part in a brawl involving all four men’s respective tag teams.
Bugez made appearances on NXT as an extra during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and made appearances playing the part of Joseph Average/The Nightpanther for WWE’s commercials. At The Fastlane and WrestleMania to set up his matches against R-Truth and Akira Tozawa, he won the WWE 24/7 Championship twice.
Alliance with Shinsuke Nakamura and injury
In 2021, Bugez made his debut on SmackDown going by the ring name Rick Boogs. He made his in-ring return on August 20 of the same year when he teamed opposite Nakamura to defeat Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez. At WrestleMania 38, Boogs and Nakamura sought for the WCW Tag Team titles but The Usos won. Unfortunately, during the match, Boogs tore a quadriceps/patellar tendon which required surgery.
Evolve
Bugez, as Rik Bugenhagen, worked his first match with Evolve in the independent scene on January 17th at an Evolve event during their time of affiliation with WWE. Bugez lost his first match to Joe Gacy at the event on January 19th. On January 21st, Bugez won his first fight, defeating Anthony Greene.
