Why was Road Dogg released from WWE?
WWE has released many employees in this latest round of layoffs, including Road Dogg. He is a former WWE Hall of Famer, and longtime tag team champion. He left his position as SmackDown Live producer because he disagreed with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and the creative direction.
Vince McMahon cut Road Dogg after going to WWE for a long time. McMahon did it all in the WWE, like being Jeff Jarrett’s sidekick or invading WCW. McMahon was friends with Triple H and Shawn Michaels because he was part of the legendary group Degeneration X, but none of that mattered because Vince fired him.

WWE/F Return in 1996
After James’ return, he became known as “The Road Dogg Jesse James. Soon after, Rockabilly reverted to his Billy Gunn ring name and chose the moniker “Badd Ass,” while Road Dogg began to grow his hair and braid it. This small change in appearance mirrored a new attitude for this team, which eventually became known as the New Age Outlaws after defeating The Legion of Doom for their first Tag Team Championship.
New Age Outlaws to D-Generation X
The Outlaws became major enemies of D-Generation X when the former teamed up with Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H. They’d continue to feud well into 1999 until WCW went out of business. However, in 2001, after wrestling for another wrestling company, James discovered that the WWF had bought WCW and so neither business could hire him.

Early career (1986; 1991–1994)
- James, who wrestled under the name of Brian Armstrong, wrestled his first pro wrestling match on December 1, 1986 against Kevin Sullivan. James then put his wrestling career on hold in 1987 to join the military.
- Brian was first mentioned in 1991 on a spreadsheet wrestling event. During the commentary, they said that his brother, Brad, was on duty during Operation Desert Storm. Five years later, Brian returned to WWE (then known as WCW) and lost to Terrance Taylor.
- James made his debut for the company in 1992. As The Dark Secret, he performed as a jobber, losing to Tracy Smothers in November 20th. Since then, he has continued to wrestle as a masked wrestler, but this time for Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
- James returned to SMW after a break following an injury and lost his first match back. After that, James became Brian Armstrong and he went on to win his next match.
- In the following years, James would return to singles and tag team wrestling for the Brian Armstrong ring name in SMW and WCW. He found success in singles, but would continue to job for both organizations under The Dark Secret.
- Brian wrestled more frequently for WCW in 1994, including a title match outing against the World Television Champion Lord Steven Regal which he lost. On March 5, 1994, Armstrong lost to Terra Ryzing – who would go on to become one of Brian’s DX stablemates Triple H – in his debut match for the promotion; as well as teaming with Brad, albeit in losing efforts for WCW.
- Following a tag-team match where he (as The Dark Secret) and Killer Kyle lost at April 4, LeBron James left Smoky Mountain Wrestling and began competing solely for WCW as Brian Armstrong.
- Neville had little success. His only victory was in a tag team dark match paired with his older brother, Brad. Neville’s brother, along with himself, were relegated to jobbing on TV shows. The most notable instance was when he competed against the World Television Champion Regal in a rematch. Around this time, Neville adopted his signature haircut: an undercut braid.
- On November 14, 1994, the future Triple H lost to Johnny B. Badd for the WCW Championship. Shortly after, both men left the company. James’s final match with WCW was on December 17, when he and his brothers lost to Three Faces of Fear Kevin Sullivan, The Butcher and Avalanche in a six-man tag match
