Rob Van Dam, a former WWE Superstar, recently said that the way the company booked a certain title in the past made him feel insulted.
RVD joined WWE (then called WWF) in 2001. On the July 9 show of RAW, he attacked Kane and Chris Jericho for the first time as a bad guy. He went on to become one of the most famous names in the business, going up against pros like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Undertaker.
On a recent episode of his podcast 1 of a Kind with RVD, the legend said that he felt insulted by WWE because it seemed like they were making fun of ECW by booking the Hardcore Championship fights as a “joke.”
RVD also said that many people thought the Hardcore Title matches in WWE were funny:

“I was insulted by it until I got it [Hardcore Title]. I felt like they were making fun of us in ECW because we have this, in my opinion, [a] superior art form, making wrestling cool to people that aren’t even wrestling fans,” said Van Dam.
Rob Van Dam also said that he gave the Hardcore Championship some respect by putting on some of the best matches on the card.
“Then I would see the Hardcore title match on Monday Night RAW or whatever, and in my opinion, I thought they were making a joke out of it. RIP Crash Holly, but it pretty much meant the hot dog stand was gonna get tipped over (…) the Hardcore match was something to laugh at.”
Rob Van Dam, who used to be a big star in WWE, just started working for AEW. On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Monday Night showed up out of the blue. He went up to Jack Perry with Jerry Lynn after Perry said he had made the FTW Championship.
