On August 5, WWE will hold SummerSlam at Ford Field in Detroit. The card is starting to come together in a big way. So far, there are 8 matches set for the big show, but adding one match had to change a lot.
WWE added a battle royal with Slim Jim to the SummerSlam card. In that match, LA Knight, Chad Gable, Otis, Shinsuke Nakamura, and other wrestlers will take part. This SummerSlam match has a lot of advertising money behind it, just like the Mountain Dew vs. Pitch Black match at the Royal Rumble.
A longtime member of the WWE creative team told us that the Slim Jim battle royal is worth a lot of money to the company. Still, they had to make sure it was on the card long enough to be worth their sponsor’s money. We were the first to learn that the Zombie Lumberjack match at WrestleMania Backlash in 2021, which was tied to the Army of the Dead movie, made WWE $700,000.
This year, WWE has already gotten more advertising money than ever before in the company’s history. During WWE’s 2nd quarter of 2023 earnings call, CEO Nick Khan was happy to say this. So, this SummerSlam deal with Slim Jim will be part of the report for the next quarter.

WWE had to make things work because they are open for business and want to make as much money as they can. Still, it’s possible that some matches had to be switched around to make room for the new Slim Jim sponsorship.
Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus was meant to happen at SummerSlam, but the company already moved it to their Winnipeg show, where it will be a huge draw. WWE could also add the WWE Women’s World Championship match between Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez to the biggest party of the summer. However, that match may also have to wait.
WWE saw a big addition to the show when the Slim Jim battle royal was announced. This came around the time when a couple of matches were nixed from the card.
