Stone Cold Steve Austin announced at the WWE WrestleMania on Saturday that he was willing to have a match against Kevin Owens. That was an incredible surprise to many fans. Many have believed that this was the strategy. This isn’t the truth.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Austin Owens and Owens were scheduled for the possibility of a match at some point however Austin wanted to avoid an unpleasant fight, and the idea was to have an extended brawl over some time.
But, after intensive workouts, Austin felt comfortable enough to participate in a match. The news reports previously stated that Austin performed lots of cardio before the game.
Fascinating detail is that, while Austin was practicing his routine, he would stand up on the ropes, and then flip people off. But WWE producers advised him that he could not perform that since the company has changed. Austin performed a different take, and Austin did exactly what the producer wanted, but was ordered to not perform the act during the Live show. In the live show, Austin repeated the act. The story was reported earlier this week on the Pat McAfee Show.
