Lausanne, the Olympic capital, hosted the second edition of Swiss Street Weightlifting from July 8-9. At the central location of Flon, hundreds of adults and children witnessed weightlifting displays and were able to gain an introduction to the sport. The organisers, backed by the IWF, expressed great delight at the response to their initiative and support of Lausanne locals.
In an intense competition, six teams made it to the finals – each consisting of one man and one woman. Coming in fifth were Switzerland’s duo of S. Meister & Y. Tschan, who beat out Team Crossfit (A. Lancry & J. Aufdenblatten). For third place, it was France’s L. Antonio & B. Ferré who got the better of Spain’s G. Anasagasti & A. Mendoza. It all came down to a battle for the gold medal between International’s S. Davies & D. Certov and Brit-Swiss’ F. Morrow & T. Verloes, with the former taking home top honors in the end.
Besides the “traditional” weightlifting competition, there was a bench press exhibition, a demonstration of street workouts, and the Swiss Youth Championship. On Sunday morning, children were given free weightlifting initiations.
