Teddy Atlas, a trainer and boxing analyst, is fuming over one of the scorecards from Saturday’s fight between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Haney retained his undisputed lightweight title by winning a twelve-round unanimous decision against Lomachenko at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
It was scored 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 by the judges.
Most observers believed Lomachenko had done enough to win.
According to the judges, Haney won by an eight-round tally of 116-112. Most felt that the bout was a draw or a 7-5 fight in either direction.
Moretti scored Haney’s tenth round for Haney, which was widely regarded as one of Lomachenko’s best rounds. Lomachenko landed 11 of 49 punches in that round, while Haney connected with only five.
In order to explain why he scored the tenth round for Haney, Atlas wants Moretti to appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
“I can live with the two scores I guess, but not the 116-112. Someone told me that Dave Moretti gave the 10th round to Haney, if that’s true he should be brought in front of the commission to explain,” Atlas stated.
“If Nevada Commission doesn’t call Moretti in and make him explain giving 10th to Haney, then we should start a petition to disband them. I need to see if it’s taxpayer’s money that runs Nevada commission, if so then citizens really need to stand up.”
Lomachenko won’t be rematched by Haney and his handlers.
