There has been a lot of talk about Roman Reigns’ next title defense. As we previously reported, The Tribal Chief will not be competing at Money in the Bank as WWE‘s current plans revolve around SummerSlam. In an update, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE wants Reign’s next championship match against Randy Orton to be at SummerSlam.
The WWE Undisputed Universal Champion is currently feuding with Riddle and could face The Original Bro in a televised episode ahead of the July 30 event. WWE has reportedly scheduled three major matches for Roman Reigns. Riddle was scheduled to wrestle Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank. However, the first-time clash will most likely be booked for a weekly show rather than a premium live event card. Also, it is unknown if Riddle and Reigns’ fight for the world championship will take place.
For Randy Orton, The Viper is out with injury and should ideally be back before SummerSlam to prepare for his matchup against Reigns. The Tribal Chief has apparently become a part-time talent and has not defended his title on a television show since WrestleMania 38. However, Reigns jeopardized the championship against Drew McIntyre in ten live events in April and May.
Interestingly, McIntyre and Reigns are scheduled to have another big match at WWE Clash of the Castle in September. It would be exciting to see how the creative team develops the World Cup cover art into the second half of 2022.
