Ric Flair was effectively lured by Evans, costing Charlotte several contests and igniting a contentious romance between the two.
The narrative came to a sudden conclusion when Evans revealed she was actually expecting a child, writing her absence from WWE into the plot and putting an end to the unsettling tale.
While Lacey Evans’ WWE career appears to be coming to a conclusion, she will likely be remembered more than most for one particular event and storyline: her alliance with Ric Flair during a rivalry with Charlotte Flair back in 2021. When it comes to contemporary storylines, this was a narrative that felt more like it belonged in the often delirious Ruthless Aggression or Attitude Eras than at a time when WWE was primarily focused on a family-friendly product.
Ric Flair Was Successfully Seduced by Lacey Evans
Ric Flair, the father of multiple WWE Women’s Champions and the face of the company’s women’s division, Charlotte Flair, appeared on the January 4 Legends Night episode of Monday Night Raw in 2021. Ric Flair is a 16-time world champion and member of the WWE Hall of Fame. The storyline started out strangely because Charlotte and Asuka were at the time the Women’s Tag Team Champions. The two of them competed in a non-title match against the haphazard team of Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce.

The Southern Belle, Lacey Evans
At ringside for this match, Ric Flair would try to woo Evans. The over-70-year-old male, known for his propensity to pursue women, would watch her dance suggestively in his direction. As the bout went on, Flair became so enraged by these developments that he tripped his own daughter, losing her the match and giving Evans’ side the victory. Ric himself revealed in an interview on the MMA Show with Ariel Helwani that he wasn’t comfortable with the plot, and Evans even placed a kiss on The Nature Boy as she moved to the back.

The following week, after strutting out from the back, Ric once more cost Charlotte her match, this time in a singles battle with Evans. After that, Evans and Ric left together to “get changed” in the hotel room, prompting onlookers to infer all kinds of meanings. Even while it was obvious that Evans was playing mind games, it was unsettling to witness, especially given that Ric has previously engaged in contentious behavior with opponents, like as when he forcibly kissed Becky Lynch during a title bout.
Evans and Ric continued to play mind games, accompanying one another and fighting with Charlotte in one of Ric’s worst-ever feuds. Evans was seen one week wearing one of Ric’s robes during Charlotte’s match against Peyton Royce, suggesting that the two might have even visited his home together. The legend performed some awkward “wrestling moves” the following week when Ric and Evans were backstage getting all touchy-feely with her. Ric appeared to be nothing more than a perverted old guy because he was seen to be conflicted between the two.
Evans pursued the Raw Women’s Title, even getting a shot at the gold, and it soon became clear that WWE was constructing this to be the primary women’s program on Raw at WrestleMania. Ric and Evans persisted in downplaying what was actually happening while maintaining that their relationship was one of mutual respect and mentorship. However, the plot came to an abrupt and bizarre finale.

Lacey Evans becoming pregnant marked the resolution of the plot.
Evans made her pregnancy announcement on Raw just before vying for the Raw Women’s Title on the PPV. She was joined by Ric. In order to explain Evans’ absence, WWE decided to fabricate a pregnancy that she actually had. When she said this, Ric strutted and wooed, enjoying the news as though he were the father. It was a dreadful moment that, mercifully, did not include any hands but screamed of something like the incident involving Mark Henry and Mae Young during the Attitude Era.

After Evans was removed from the screen and the plot was finished, he was never again mentioned. The planned match between Charlotte and Evans was switched to Asuka vs. Rhea Ripley in the run-up to WrestleMania, and Charlotte was also removed from television. Evans’ actual pregnancy was a godsend and a curse, to be honest. A blessing in disguise because it signaled the early conclusion of this plot line, which couldn’t have arrived soon enough. A curse in the sense that, according to WWE legend, Ric impregnated her. Whoever thought this up needed to take a good, long look at themselves because it was genuinely horrible in every sense of the word. It was a weird muddle from beginning to end.
