After his debut on the September 24 Heat, Young would lose singles matches to The Miz and The Miz in Friday Night SmackDowns taped October 3. WWE signed him to a developmental contract on December 5 and he debuted in OVW on December 5 where he lost to James Curtis. He was released from his contract again because WWE switched its development deal with OVW in February 2010.
How Ring of Honor establishes itself amongst wrestling
Early appearances (2007–2009)
On September 14, 2007, Young made his Ring of Honor debut at the promotion’s Motor City Madness event, where he was defeated by Davey Richards; following his debut and victory, Young secured his first victory in ROH on June 28, 2008.
The story of the Last Real Man:
Young returned to Ring of Honor on July 14, 2012, after a three-year absence, but lost in a match against Michael Elgin. On September 15 at Death Before Dishonor X, he lost to Tadarius Thomas in the qualifying round for Survival of the Fittest 2012. For Top Prospect Tournament later in the year, Young faced Adam Page and qualified for the next round. He was eliminated from the tournament by Matt Taven on February 2. On March 2nd at the 11th Anniversary Show, Young lost one-on-one in ‘Six-Man Mayhem’ for ACH before losing to Jay Lethal on September 20th at Death Before Dishonor XI.
On September 28, 2013, Young challenged anyone to beat him in a singles match. Mark Briscoe answered the challenge and won the match. Later that evening, Young participated in a battle royal to determine who would receive a title shot for World Championship. After the match, with any less than two wrestlers remaining, he was eliminated by Mark Briscoe. They began feuding and at Glory by Honor XII, Young defeated Briscoe. On November 15, Young lost to Mark’s brother Jay. On December 14 at Final Battle 2013, their feud culminated when Young defeated Briscoe in a strap match. On January 4, Young participated against WORLD Television Champion Tommaso Ciampa but failed again in winning the title. After that match former champion, Matt Taven came to congratulate them but Jay refused to shake his hand and instead attacked him. As a result, Jay went on to wrestle against Matt Taven at the 12th Anniversary Show where Jay won thanks to help from Jimmy Jacobs and Christopher Daniels. The next day though Jay responded with his own win over Matt Taven and then Caprice Coleman and Takaaki Watanabe later that night too!
Young made his return from injury on March 13, 2015, in a losing effort to Will Ferrara. The following night, Young defeated Mark Briscoe and Matt Taven in a Proving Ground four-corner survival match to earn a title match with World Champion Jay Briscoe later that night. However, he was unsuccessful in defeating Briscoe for the title. After defeating his tag partner Takaaki Watanabe at Global Wars ’15, he started a feud with Dalton Castle by surviving past Young’s defeat in June at Best in the World 2015.
