Introduction: The Story of Islam Makhachev

Islam Makhachev is a Russian mixed martial artist who competes in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He has been with the organization since 2014 and is currently ranked #12 in the UFC lightweight division.

Makhachev was born in Dagestan, Russia and began training in freestyle wrestling at the age of eight. He later trained in Judo and Sambo before transitioning to mixed martial arts. Makhachev made his professional MMA debut in 2009 and compiled a perfect record of 12-0 before signing with the UFC in 2014.

Since joining the UFC, Makhachev has gone 6-2 with notable wins over Gleison Tibau, Chris Wade, and Nik Lentz. He most recently fought at UFC 249 in May 2020,where he defeated Anthony Pettis via unanimous decision.

Makhachev is known for his grappling ability and has earned five of his six UFC wins by submission. He trains with American Kickboxing Academy alongside fellow UFC fighters Khabib Nurmagomedov, Daniel Cormier, and Luke Rockhold.

Overcoming Adversity: How Islam Overcame His Struggles

Makhachev was born on October 27, 1988, in Dagestan, Russia. His father died when he was seven years old and his mother died when he was thirteen. As a result, he was raised by his older sister.

Makhachev began training in judo at the age of five. He later switched to sambo and then to mixed martial arts. He made his professional MMA debut in 2009.

Makhachev has fought nineteen times as a professional MMA fighter. He has compiled a record of 17 wins and 2 losses. Eleven of his seventeen wins have come by way of submission.

Makhachev’s first loss came against current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2014. The two rematch in 2019 with Makhachev winning via unanimous decision.

In 2020, Makhachev defeated Davi Ramos via submission to earn his first victory in the UFC lightweight division.

Unlocking Potential: What Islam Did to Reach the Top

Makhachev was born in Dagestan, Russia, and began training in Judo at the age of six. He later began training in Sambo and Wrestling and went on to win multiple championships in both disciplines. In 2010, he made his MMA debut, and quickly amassed an undefeated record of 13-0.

In 2014, Makhachev signed with the UFC and made his promotional debut against Adriano Martins. He would go on to win his next three fights before suffering his first loss to Rustam Khabilov in 2015.

After rebounding with a victory over Chris Wade, Makhachev once again suffered a setback, this time against Leonardo Santos. However, he would once again bounce back, this time with a dominant performance against Kajan Johnson.

Most recently, Makhachev picked up the biggest win of his career when he defeated Gleison Tibau at UFC Fight Night 129. With the victory, Makhachev extended his winning streak to five fights and established himself as a potential contender in the lightweight division.

Mentorship and Support: Who Helped Him Along the Way

Islam Makhachev’s journey to UFC victory was not an easy one. He faced many challenges along the way, but he never gave up. His perseverance and determination led him to success.

Makhachev had several mentors and supporters who helped him along the way. His coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, was a big influence in his life. Abdulmanap taught Makhachev the importance of hard work and dedication. He also instilled in him the belief that anything is possible if you never give up.

Makhachev’s father, Magomed, was another key figure in his development as a fighter. He encouraged his son to never give up on his dreams and supported him through thick and thin.

Islam’s Brother, Abbas, was also a big help to him. Abbas always believed in Islam and pushed him to be the best that he could be. The two brothers would train together and motivate each other to reach their goals.

Makhachev’s wife, Amina, has been by his side since the beginning of his MMA career. She has been a constant source of love and support throughout his ups and downs. Amina has always believed in her husband’s potential and has been instrumental in helping him achieve his dreams.

Islam Makhachev is a Dagestani-Russian professional mixed martial artist who competes in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is known for his tenacious grappling and relentless ground-and-pound.

Makhachev began training in judo at the age of five and later transitioned to sambo and pankration. In 2009, he began training in mixed martial arts under the tutelage of Khabib Nurmagomedov, one of the most successful MMA fighters of all time.
