Rules of Turkish Oil Wrestling
For any wrestling match to happen, rules must be followed. A governing body has set a process for how any match progresses in Turkish oil wrestling. The one rule that should be of interest is how to win the match. Winning can be achieved by getting your opponent on your back (this means on their shoulders and back).
How to win the match:
There are three ways to win the oil wrestling match:
- If you make your opponent fall on their side or if they touch the ground without inverting themselves, a win. Another way to win is for the other participant to give up. Every participant holds the right to give up at any point of the match.
- The victor of the oil wrestling match does not win by toppling out their opponent, but by keeping them up. If an oil wrestler stays upright for at least three steps while holding their opponent, they win the match. Because when the kispet is torn off its length or falls, it is considered a loss by one side.
- As a part of the predetermined sport, scoring is part of an oil wrestling match for 30 minutes. If there is no winner after 30 minutes, then the match gets extended for another 10 minutes. If there is still no winner after the extension, then the time becomes indefinite for the match. In the indefinite contest, there is no need for one of the opponents to win. Instead, different colored bands are tied to the ankles of both participants and whoever gets the first score, they are accepted as the winner.
