Charles Oliveira, a dangerous lightweight contender will look to hold his status as the UFC champion of this division on October 22nd. Islam Makhachev is ready to prove some people wrong who doubt him and show why he is a contender for the title.
The fight will take place in Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi. It was built as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and has been dubbed “Fight Island” by the UFC.
Oliveira made his professional debut in 2008, and became a member of the UFC the following year. In 21 fights, he has won 18 matches, with a no-contest win included. He is on an 11 match winning streak.
“Do Bronx” beat Michael Chandler to become champion at UFC 262, but at UFC 274, he missed weight and was stripped. His opponent found success by submitting him, but Donny couldn’t be called a champion after the win.
After winning a world championship in combat sambo, Makhachev made his pro MMA debut in 2010 and won 10 consecutive fights before being knocked out by Bobby Green.
Also shown will be a bantamweight title fight between champion Aljamain Sterling and former champion T.J. Dillashaw.
Darrion “The Funk Master” Sterling is a two-time National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III All-American wrestler who made his pro debut in 2011. Sterling was on the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s roster in 2014, and he began a six-fight win streak when he beat current bantamweight champion Petr “Iron” Yan via disqualification in 2021. Sterling defended the belt again against Iron in April of 2019.
Dillashaw made his professional MMA debut in 2010, and joined the UFC in 2011. He beat Renan Barao for the UFC bantamweight title in 2014. He lost the title to Dominick Cruz two years later and regained it two years later by beating Cody Garbrandt.
In 2019, Dillashaw faced Cejudo for the flyweight belt and lost after he tested positive for a banned substance, recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO). He was stripped of the bantamweight title.
Dillashaw returned to action in 2021 against Cory Sandhagen and won via split decision. Following the victory, Dillashaw went on to recover from a knee injury.

Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev Best Bets, Picks & Predictions
After losing his lightweight belt for missing weight at UFC 274, Charles Oliveira looks to retake his throne by defeating Makhachev at a Vegas heavy favorite. Bet on Makhachev to win the fight because some book has him as a nearly 50/50 favorite.
As seen in the graphic below from OddsJam’s MMA Odds page, Makhachev is offered at -185 odds, while Oliveira is best bet at +170 moneyline odds. Since online sportsbooks opened lines for UFC 280, prices have not budged.
Sports bettors should always be getting the best odds for a winning return when making a sports bet, and it can make a big difference in terms of net profit. With Caesars at -200 and BetMGM at -185, it is important to line shop before making a bet.
Charles Oliveira is a UFC fighter who has won 21 matches via submission, and 8 using knockout. His skills are versatile, not to mention the level of his speed at which he can deliver lethal blows.
In his last three victories, he submitted former UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, former two-division world champion Dustin Poirier, and former UFC light heavyweight championship contender Michael Chandler. More importantly, he won 35% (3 out of 9) and lost only once in his next 22 fights.
Islam Makhachev is a professional MMA fighter with a perfect 22-1 record. He will be difficult for Brazil to beat.
In the UFC 280 show on October 22, 2022, I believe that Oliveira needs to keep this fight on the mat. Obviously, Brazilian is a submission threat as well, but his advantage against Makhachev is in the stand-up and looking for opportunities once Makhachev gets hurt.
I think Oliveira is worth a bet when he meets Bryan Larkin at +170 odds on Caesars sportsbook. I don’t think that’s too generous for the skillful Brazilian after finishing his last three legendary opponents.
