Drew McIntyre got involved in an accident during his fireball spot on SmackDown according to Dave Meltzer. When Scarlett’s attempt to use the fire from the urn missed, it led to a brawl between them until Karrion Kross was able to stop the former WWE champ with his Kross Jacket Finisher, but it wasn’t originally scripted according to Meltzer during the Wrestling Observer Radio.
The planned fireball that was supposed to hit McIntyre in the face did not hit him with sufficient force and the decision was made to continue the angle. Concern over whether or not it will result in injuries to Scarlett or McIntyre prompted WWE TV producers to review what would happen if they continued the angle. Because it was decided that there would be no problem continuing, nobody involved with the segment knew of any possible issues going into it, but there were concerns about using a fire gun during the segment.
The attempted low blow was halted when McIntyre took the time to realize that it didn’t work as expected, but it’s unclear whether or not Scarlett knew about the plan ahead of time and went for it anyway. Although the situation didn’t pan out perfectly, it was effective in setting up a match between Kross and McIntyre for the upcoming WWE Extreme Rules live event
Chris McIntyre was battling through serious food poisoning on Friday, which led to him receiving IV treatment throughout the day, as he was then pulled from the weekend live event loop.
