Chris Benoit is currently a hot topic in the wrestling world, due to Jordynne Grace’s tweets about him and on the latest episode of the “Gentleman Villain” podcast, William Regal provided his thoughts on him.
While Martina, Dave, Megan, and Sandra are all willing to talk about Benoit and his final days in wrestling—regardless of whether they have anything positive or negative to say—Regal is not one of them. He has “Too much respect for Martina, for David, for Megan, and for Nancy’s sister, Sandra.”
“I don’t understand, people want to profit off of this misery, especially when there’s children involved and Sandra and Chris’ ex-wife,” he said. “They have their lives to live and leave them alone is my view on the matter.”
In reflecting on the Sunday mentioned, Regal said that it was unusual for Benoit not to show up for work, but at the time their relationship was not as close as it had once been. Regal and his wife had been friends with Martina and Benoit since both families lived in the same neighbourhood. But after Martina broke up with Benoit and got together with another woman, their relationship deteriorated.
“My wife would not have Chris anywhere near my house,” Regal said. “Eventually Chris moved from six miles away from where I lived, once he was with Nancy. Chris knew that he was not allowed near my house, so any of our social life ended then … As unlikely as it seems now, we used to knock around in the ’90s, but by the 2000s I wasn’t going out anymore, so when we were back together in WWE, the only times that we were ever together was at work … We still had brief greetings like how are you doing and that was it, and he understood the situation at my home, that he wasn’t allowed to visit anywhere near me.”
Regal explained how little involvement he had with Benoit in the years leading up to his death.
“The house that all these terrible things happened in”, Regal said. “I didn’t even know the precise location until this moment, but I knew it had to be not far from where I lived as it was probably no more than six miles away. I also don’t know the exact location of the house because it is still shrouded in mystery.”
