Pat McAfee is a play by play commentator alongside Michael Cole for the “Friday Night Smackdown” brand who occasionally steps in the ring to wrestle from time to time.
Appearing on the Dan Patrick show
“WWE drug tests their employees frequently,” stated McAfee while appearing on the Dan Patrick show. “Yes, they do now. There is always going to be talk of groups in society who are not examined as often. There are always theories about things, but I have been long-term tested and given my blood to WWE.”
“… There are a lot of things that happen whenever you start injecting your body with stuff. And people who were already high energy or very emotional, and then there was some stuff that has happened through the evolution of humans and the evolution of WWE where they have had to put in different rules.”
As an NFL punter, McAfee had to submit to a strict drug-testing schedule.
In his eight-year pro career, he was a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro for the Indianapolis Colts. In 2008, the Colts implemented one of the most demanding doping regimens in professional sports.
Over the years, WWE and professional wrestling as a whole have gained a reputation for being an environment where drug use is common. Whether it be performance-enhancing drugs or recreational drugs, use of these substances has recently been reported in WWE.
Athletes in the ’90s and prior were breaking their bodies. The athletes of today take care of their bodies more now, and don’t do as much destructive behavior anymore.
Recent changes to the WWE schedule might have helped wrestlers schedule more time for their lives, as they used to work every single night. Now, wrestlers only do that a few times per week, so this is likely a result of later scheduling changes.
His role as a SmackDown announcer has helped him become a fan-beloved figure in WWE, but he had also dabbled with the idea of wrestling.
McAfee beat Happy Corbin in an exciting match on Saturday’s SummerSlam.
Given that he has been a natural athlete in the ring and is known for testing well, McAfee will likely compete many more times with WWE and be familiar with their drug-testing system.
