Only a few days before Battleground, WWENXT teased a momentous night for the May 23 edition of their show.
The last two contestants in the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament will be determined by the tournament, and top names will compete in matches just days before major title matchups.
In order to advance to the finals of the NXT Women’s Championship tournament, Roxanne Perez needed to win against Tiffany Stratton. Meanwhile, Cora Jade needed to win against Lyra Valkyria in order to achieve her goal of winning gold for the first time.
The match between Eddy Thorpe and Tyler Bate, who is considered to be one of the top contenders for the NXT North American Championship, was the most difficult test that Eddy Thorpe has faced to this point in his career. Both Wes Lee and Joe Gacy were going to be paying close attention to The Big Strong Boi.
A few days before their match for the Heritage Cup, Noam Dar intended to set an example for the audience by humiliating Nathan Frazer. By accepting Dabba-Kato’s challenge, Axiom intended to climb to the top of NXT’s mountain.
In order to finish putting the finishing touches on the card for Sunday’s Battleground event in Lowell, Massachusetts, some work needed to be done on Tuesday’s show. This included creating some additional buzz for the upcoming fight between Carmelo Hayes and Bron Breaker.
Cora Jade and Lyra Valkyria will square off in the first round of the NXT Women’s Title Tournament.
Throughout the entirety of this match, Lyra Valkyria had a hard time containing her anxiety, but she was still able to surprise Cora Jade. She shocked her opponent by catching her with a roundhouse kick, which ultimately led to her victory.
After that, The Generation of Jade attacked The Valkyrie with her baseball bat while yelling that the NXT Women’s Championship belonged to her. Ultimately, The Valkyrie retained her championship.
In spite of all the buildup, the Jade vs. Valkyria fight did not even make it to the five-minute mark before its uncomfortable and abrupt conclusion. The crowd was unprepared for the conclusion of the match, despite the fact that it was a pleasant surprise in an otherwise predictable event.
During the course of the match, there were a few sloppy instances in which two women could be seen racing to make the most of an inappropriately short amount of time. It was a distraction at a time when Valkyria was celebrating the most significant victory of her career.
The victory that The Valkyrie has earned cannot be taken away from her. She has reached the pinnacle of her profession at this point. Although the attack on Jade after the match may have hurt her chances of winning, she still has a higher chance of taking first place in the competition after watching this show than she had before it.
Result
Valkyra advanced her position in the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament by virtue of a pinfall victory against Jade.
