The bodybuilding community is reeling from the tragic news of Kevin Gebhardt’s untimely death at just 31 years old. Despite stepping back from competition for several years, Gebhardt had cultivated a strong following, and his sudden passing has left many in disbelief.
The heartbreaking news emerged on May 26 when Phil Soprano, a close friend of Gebhardt, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram. “Coach, Mentor, Rest Pole, FRIEND! Or as Patty used to call you – you fat teddy bear! We thank you for everything! We miss you already, but I’m sure we will meet again someday! Rest in peace!” Soprano wrote. As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the cause of his death.
Generation Iron later confirmed the news on Instagram, stating, “The bodybuilding world mourns the loss of pro bodybuilder and coach Kevin Gebhardt who has reportedly passed away at 31 years old.” Gebhardt was a prominent figure in bodybuilding, well-regarded by peers and fans alike. His close friend and mentor, Milos Sarcev, who trained and supported him throughout his career, expressed his sorrow: “We have lost another brother of iron…. I am devastated with the news and very sad for his girlfriend and his family. May he rest in peace.” In a previous interview with Gannikus, Gebhardt had praised Sarcev’s guidance, describing their collaboration as highly constructive.

Gebhardt’s journey into bodybuilding began at the age of 14 when he first visited a weight room with his uncle. From that moment, he was determined to make bodybuilding his career. He started training with friends, though many of his peers eventually quit. Gebhardt’s dedication only grew, especially after attending Mr. Universe at 16. By 18, he was competing in NABBA, NAC, and DBFV competitions, and in 2018, he earned his Pro Card by winning the EVLS Prague.
However, Gebhardt faced numerous challenges that impacted his career. He last competed in 2021 and often found himself lower in the rankings. In 2023, he suffered a significant setback with a torn hamstring and subsequent severe bronchitis and COVID-19, which further hindered his plans to return to competition. Even a few weeks before his passing, he updated fans about a knee injury but remained hopeful about recovery. The news of his sudden death has deeply affected the bodybuilding community.
