Bobby Lashley appears to be on his way out of WWE, and he might not be leaving alone, which could pave the way for a significant reunion in the wrestling world.
Lashley’s WWE contract ends in a matter of weeks, and it seems he won’t be re-signing with the company, unlike Drew McIntyre, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and Natalya, who have renewed their deals in recent months. Lashley, who has not been seen on WWE programming since April, was most recently part of a group with The Street Profits. However, it could be another group Lashley has an association with that might shape his future.
Bobby Lashley Bringing Hurt Business to AEW?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer provided more insight into the situation surrounding Bobby Lashley, confirming that both he and his former manager MVP are on their way out of WWE and could be looking to resurrect a popular group in AEW.
“He is on his way out. Bobby Lashley and MVP both. I know that there’s talk of them trying to get into AEW. I mean, it’s one of those things where technically nobody can talk to them because I don’t believe either’s contract has expired, but their contracts are going to expire. As things stand right now, WWE is under the assumption that they are gone and that they are going to try to revamp The Hurt Business. I don’t know if they’ll use that name or not, I guess it depends on the ownership of the name.”
Meltzer continued, “I think I saw MVP tried to register to own the name which would mean that they would maybe even try to use it. But whatever it is, they want to get Shelton Benjamin who’s also a free agent and revamp the group in AEW. Whether this happens or not, I mean it depends on Tony Khan. But it’s definitely something that is under consideration. I don’t believe it’s a done deal or anything like that. But it is something that is alive.”
If Lashley and MVP do leave WWE, the implications are significant. Lashley, a two-time WWE Champion and a dominant force in the company, has had a storied career with WWE, including his most recent run as a member of The Hurt Business. The group, which included MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander, was highly popular among fans and was credited with elevating all its members during the pandemic era of WWE programming.
As of right now, Bobby Lashley and MVP are both expected to leave WWE when their contracts expire, which is relatively soon. If this happens, the only member of The Hurt Business still with WWE would be Cedric Alexander, who has recently joined the NXT roster. This potential move to AEW could see The Hurt Business reformed with new energy and possibly new members, adding significant star power to AEW’s roster.
The possibility of Lashley and MVP joining AEW also opens up numerous exciting matchups and storylines in a company known for its creative freedom and emphasis on wrestling. For Lashley, it would be a new chapter in a career that has seen him compete at the highest levels in WWE, MMA, and other wrestling promotions. For MVP, it could mean another opportunity to showcase his managerial skills and in-ring prowess.
As fans eagerly await more developments, the wrestling world buzzes with speculation. Whether Lashley and MVP ultimately make the jump to AEW remains to be seen, but the potential for such a move has certainly captured the imagination of the wrestling community.
