Contrary to recent speculation, the Detroit Sports Commission (DSC) has confirmed that it is not preparing a bid to host WrestleMania 43 in 2027. Reports circulated that Detroit, which has hosted two previous WrestleMania events, was in the process of making a bid to bring the iconic WWE showcase back to Michigan. However, DSC officials have clarified that these rumors are unfounded.
In a statement to The Detroit News, the Detroit Sports Commission denied any active bid preparation, stating, “Contrary to recent speculation, the DSC is not currently in the process of preparing a bid to host WrestleMania in 2027. However, we remain enthusiastic about the prospect of hosting future major WWE events. The Detroit Sports Commission values its strong relationship with WWE and is proud to have hosted some of their premier events across the Metro Detroit region.”
The statement underscores the strong relationship between the DSC and WWE, with Detroit having a rich history of hosting WWE’s “Big Four” events. Despite not pursuing WrestleMania 43, the DSC expressed interest in hosting more WWE events in the future, indicating that the door remains open for potential partnerships.
The speculation about Detroit’s bid for WrestleMania 43 may have been fueled by the city’s past successes with the WWE. WrestleMania 3, held in 1987 at the Pontiac Silverdome, remains one of the most iconic events in wrestling history, while WrestleMania 23 in 2007 drew over 80,000 fans to Ford Field in Detroit. Detroit has also hosted Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble, and most recently, SummerSlam in 2023.
As of now, WrestleMania 41 is set to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, in April 2025, and WrestleMania 42 will be hosted in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2026. The exact location for WrestleMania 43 remains unknown, but other cities are already expressing interest. Philadelphia, for example, has indicated a desire to host WrestleMania again, with talks reportedly underway with WWE.
Beyond North America, there has been growing interest in hosting WrestleMania in the United Kingdom, with support from high-profile figures like John Cena and Cody Rhodes, as well as London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan. However, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Nick Khan, has stated that the Big Four events will remain in North America for the foreseeable future, despite global interest.
Although Detroit will not be hosting WrestleMania 43, the city’s vibrant sports scene and rich wrestling history suggest that it could play host to future major WWE events. Known for its passionate sports fans and a deep-rooted connection to the wrestling world, Detroit has been a significant location for WWE events over the years. While WrestleMania 43 heads elsewhere, Detroit’s strong tradition of hosting memorable wrestling shows keeps it on WWE’s radar for future major events.
From the historic WrestleMania III, held at the Pontiac Silverdome, to various other pay-per-views and live shows, Detroit has proven to be a lively and enthusiastic wrestling market. Fans in the Motor City and beyond will have to wait to see which city ultimately secures WrestleMania 43 and what other WWE events might return to Detroit in the years to come.
As WWE continues to expand its presence across the globe, Detroit’s potential to host major events remains strong, thanks to its infrastructure, enthusiastic fan base, and storied wrestling history. Although WrestleMania 43 might be out of reach, the city’s resilience and connection to the wrestling world ensure that it will continue to play a role in WWE’s plans, offering fans in the region something to look forward to in the future.
