Before potentially claiming his fourth WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Drew McIntyre has been honored with a prestigious distinction in his homeland of Scotland. As revealed on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), McIntyre’s contributions to professional wrestling were recognized with an induction into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame of Scotland. The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Jacqueline McLaren, officiated McIntyre’s induction by presenting him with a special plaque during the 2024 Hall of Fame ceremony at Ibrox Stadium.
“Proud to Be Scottish”
In a heartfelt video posted on X, McIntyre expressed his pride and gratitude for the recognition. “These past 17 years have really flown by quick,” McIntyre said. “I really miss it back home. And I’m very, very proud of everything I’ve built and achieved in my career, but I’m even more proud to be Scottish. If anyone has seen my entrance in WWE, I wear the kilt and I’m always flying the flag. It was important to be announced from Ayr, Scotland because everyone’s heard of Glasgow. No one’s heard of Ayr.”
McIntyre reflected on the rapid passage of time and the surreal nature of his induction. “For time to go by that quick, and suddenly I’m being inducted into the Scottish Wrestling Hall of Fame, I guess the first ever active wrestler, and the same weekend that WWE are having their first ever premium live event broadcast to the entire world, is absolutely incredible. It’s surreal.”
It is a huge honor to be inducted into the Scottish Wrestling Hall of Fame 🏴
I am so incredibly proud to be from Scotland, from Ayrshire. To be inducted at Ibrox as well doesn’t feel real 🤯#WWECastle pic.twitter.com/mrxewNr0Hx

A Special Ceremony
The ceremony at Ibrox Stadium was a poignant moment for McIntyre, who has always been vocal about his Scottish heritage. The honor not only recognizes his achievements in the ring but also his efforts in promoting Scotland on a global stage. McIntyre’s use of traditional Scottish attire and his entrance music reflect his pride in his roots, making this accolade particularly meaningful.
Preparing for Clash at the Castle
Following his Hall of Fame induction, McIntyre’s focus now shifts to the highly anticipated WWE Clash at the Castle event, set to take place at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro. McIntyre will challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship, a match with significant stakes and added intensity due to the recent stipulation barring Priest’s Judgment Day stablemates from ringside.
The lead-up to this match has been filled with high drama and excitement. McIntyre secured his shot at the title with a decisive victory on WWE Raw, further intensifying the anticipation for this clash. The Scottish Warrior’s homecoming adds another layer of significance to the event, as he will be competing in front of his home crowd, including friends and family, making this potentially the most personal and momentous match of his career.
An Emotional Journey
McIntyre’s journey to this point has been marked by resilience and dedication. From his early days in Ayr to becoming a global wrestling superstar, his story is one of perseverance and pride. His induction into the Scottish Wrestling Hall of Fame serves as a testament to his impact on the sport and his unwavering commitment to representing his country.
As Drew McIntyre steps into the ring at Clash at the Castle, he carries with him the pride of Scotland and the support of his fans worldwide. This match is not just about a title; it is about honoring his heritage and the journey that has brought him to this defining moment in his career.
