WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has had an illustrious career in professional wrestling, shining in both WCW and WWE. As a major star in both promotions, Nash had the privilege of having his matches narrated by some of the most iconic voices in the business. On a recent episode of his “Kliq This” podcast, Nash looked back on the legendary broadcasters who have called his matches over the years and shared his thoughts on his favorites.
“I always liked Tenay. I thought ‘The Professor’ was good. I liked Tony. Schiavone was good,” Nash reminisced. “I was a huge JR fan, ’cause I thought JR called it like a sport. I was always a fan of JR.”
Jim Ross, known affectionately as JR, is revered for his authentic and passionate commentary, treating professional wrestling with the gravitas of a legitimate sport, which clearly resonated with Nash.
When asked about announcers who never had the opportunity to call his matches, Nash reflected on the extensive list of voices he has worked with throughout his career.
“S*** man, there aren’t many. I’ve had Gordon Solie call my matches. Lance Russell …. I was there when Bobby [Heenan] left with the toilet paper hanging out of his back leaving ‘Superstars’ when he left for WCW,” Nash shared. “Joey [Styles] didn’t. Joey never called my match. Not that I can think of. … I think I was gone.”
Nash’s anecdotes provide a nostalgic glimpse into his experiences with some of the most respected commentators in wrestling history. He notably mentioned Gordon Solie, often referred to as the “Dean of Wrestling Commentators,” and Lance Russell, whose distinct voice became synonymous with Southern wrestling.
