Kevin Owens, a prominent figure in the WWE, has his sights set on a potential future opponent, and it’s none other than WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. Owens recently expressed his desire for a singles match against Mysterio during an appearance on Busted Open Radio, revealing his aspirations for another memorable WrestleMania moment.
Reflecting on his past experiences at WrestleMania, Owens fondly recalled his notable matches at the grandest stage of them all. At WrestleMania 38 in 2022, Owens had the unique opportunity to face off against his wrestling idol, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, in what turned out to be an entertaining encounter. The following year, at WrestleMania 39, Owens and his close friend Sami Zayn achieved a significant milestone by securing a historic victory over The Usos, capturing the WWE Tag Team Championships. This victory marked the first time in WrestleMania history that the Tag Team Titles headlined the event, solidifying Owens and Zayn’s place in WWE history.
“I’ve never had a singles match against Rey Mysterio. If I have another WrestleMania in me, I’d love to wrestle Finn Balor there. But as far as just goals, I think I’ve had it so good; I really can’t ask for more.”
“Sami and I had our first WrestleMania together in a ladder match as opponents. Two years later, we were teaming against Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan,” Owens said. “Then we got a singles match a few years later, and I was like ‘It’s not gonna get any better than that.’ And then it did last year.”
“I used to be so obsessed with just wanting to do more. And a lot of that made it so that I wouldn’t enjoy it. Teaming with Jericho for all those months and the story we had was so incredible, but in that moment, I didn’t enjoy it like I should have.”
Despite these remarkable moments, Owens expressed his eagerness for a potential singles match against Rey Mysterio, identifying it as a future WrestleMania dream match. However, amidst his aspirations, Owens also emphasized his gratitude for the incredible opportunities he has had throughout his WWE career, acknowledging that he couldn’t ask for more in terms of accomplishments and experiences.
Owens further reflected on his journey within WWE, acknowledging the evolution of his perspective over time. He admitted to previously being consumed by the desire to achieve more, often overlooking the significance of the moments he was experiencing. However, he now recognizes the importance of cherishing each opportunity and finding joy in the present, regardless of the outcome.
In a recent WWE SmackDown match, Owens found himself in a high-stakes triple threat encounter alongside Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles. Despite his desire for a singles showdown with Mysterio, Owens ultimately fell short in the match, as Styles emerged victorious after executing a devastating Styles Clash to secure the win.
While Owens may have faced defeat in his latest outing, his determination to pursue a singles match against Rey Mysterio remains unwavering. As he continues to strive for his goals and aspirations within WWE, fans eagerly anticipate the possibility of witnessing Owens and Mysterio collide in what promises to be an epic WrestleMania encounter.
