Today, Liverpool Football Club and its fans celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, a tragedy that has gone down in the annals of football history. On 15 April 1989, 97 innocent people were brutally murdered during an FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Football Stadium.
In memory of the whole club
When the clock reached 15.06, the match was over and the players, staff, and supporters observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims. At Anfield, the famous home of Liverpool Football Club, a banner was laid at the Hillsborough Memorial Hall to commemorate the lives lost and the scars left behind.
As a gesture of solidarity and remembrance, flags at Anfield will be flown at half-mast to mark this momentous occasion. In addition, retail shops at Anfield will be closed from 1 pm as a mark of respect so that the club and its communities can reflect on the huge impact of this tragedy.

Reflective day
As the city of Liverpool waits to come to terms with the day’s horrors, the sound of grief at the loss of loved ones echoes in the hearts of all those present after the Hillsborough disaster. Every name that is read, every life that is celebrated, is a great reminder of irreplaceability in the aftermath of tragedy.
The victims are people of all ages, everyone has dreams and aspirations, including loved ones who are mourning their sudden deaths. From young people to seasoned fans, the Hillsborough tragedy left an indelible mark on the minds of Liverpool and the entire football world.
Difficult to comprehend that the tragedy and events that happened in Sheffield 35 years ago today are still being willfully misinterpreted causing the families of the #97 ongoing heartache.
Rest in peace to all the #97 especially my friend and teammate Paul Hewitson ❤️RIP Hewy❤️ pic.twitter.com/PZ4AVC3ycG
