Hollywood star Stephen Amell, known for his roles in Arrow and the wrestling drama Heels, has expressed admiration for WWE sensation Logan Paul, while also hinting at a potential return to the squared circle himself. In a candid interview on Insight, Amell, who has ventured into pro wrestling in the past, spoke glowingly about Paul’s meteoric rise in WWE and teased the idea of stepping back into the ring for another about.
Amell on Logan Paul’s Impact in WWE
Logan Paul, the controversial YouTube star turned WWE competitor, has been turning heads with his impressive in-ring performances. Having competed in high-stakes matches like the Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank, as well as holding the United States Championship for an impressive 270 days, Paul has managed to surprise many with his athletic prowess and ability to stir the crowd with his natural heel persona. Amell, a fan of the sport and no stranger to the WWE stage couldn’t help but express his admiration for Paul.
“I am in awe of what Logan [Paul] does. That guy is out of this world,” Amell remarked, emphasizing the extraordinary level of talent Paul has brought to WWE. The Arrow star continued by reflecting on his own WWE journey, comparing it to Paul’s in-ring debut. “I did my run in—when I was in my mid-30s. He’s what, like 28? But he’s been doing it now for a minute,” Amell added, highlighting how Paul has fully embraced the physical demands and high-energy performances expected in WWE.
A Pioneer of Celebrity Wrestling
Before Logan Paul took his talents to WWE, Stephen Amell was one of the first celebrities to make a serious leap into the world of professional wrestling. In 2015, Amell made his WWE debut at SummerSlam, teaming with Neville (now known as PAC in AEW) to take on Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes, who was donning his Stardust persona at the time. Amell, much like Paul today, stunned fans with his athletic ability and willingness to take bumps in the ring, something many celebrity participants tend to shy away from.
Amell’s love for wrestling didn’t stop with WWE. He later appeared in Ring of Honor (ROH) and made his mark at the inaugural All In event in 2018, where he faced off against Christopher Daniels in a competitive singles match. His wrestling chops, honed through his work on Heels, which delves into the drama and intricacies of the wrestling world, have given him an authentic connection to the sport.
The Possibility of Another Match
During his Insight interview, Amell wasn’t shy about the idea of lacing up his boots once again for WWE. In fact, when host Chris Van Vliet suggested Amell was already on the “celebrity Mount Rushmore of wrestling,” the actor didn’t disagree. Instead, he revealed that WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Cody Rhodes, a close friend, believes Amell is just “one good WWE match away” from cementing his legacy and possibly receiving the “Snoop Dogg treatment”—a nod to Snoop’s celebrated appearance at WrestleMania 39.
Amell seemed intrigued by the idea, especially given WWE’s recent moves toward streaming platforms. With WWE Raw now streaming on Netflix, the same platform where Heels has found a home, the crossover potential between the two worlds has never been more apparent.
“There’s some potential with the crossover and the synchronicity with Raw being on Netflix, and Heels also now airing there,” Amell explained, envisioning a future WWE match that could capitalize on this synergy. However, Amell made it clear that any return to wrestling would require his wife’s approval, given the physical toll his previous matches have taken on him.
“I feel like I would have to get my wife to sign off because she had to take me to the hospital twice after matches,” Amell admitted with a laugh. He recounted injuries sustained both during filming Heels and following his match against Christopher Daniels at All In.
The Physical Toll of Wrestling
Amell’s love for wrestling isn’t without consequence. While wrestling has given him some of the most memorable experiences of his career, it’s also left him with battle scars. After his match with Daniels at All In in 2018, Amell had to be hospitalized, a reminder of the real dangers involved in the sport. Similarly, while filming for Heels, Amell endured another injury that required a trip to the hospital. Despite these setbacks, Amell remains open to the idea of another match.
“I’ve had a few serious matches while filming Heels and came out unscathed,” he mentioned, hinting that his wrestling days might not be entirely behind him.
A WWE Return on the Horizon?
For fans of both pro wrestling and Heels, the possibility of Stephen Amell returning for one more WWE match is exciting. With his connections to stars like Cody Rhodes and his evident love for the sport, it’s not hard to imagine Amell stepping back into the ring for a high-profile bout. His return could also serve as a bridge between his two worlds—Hollywood and wrestling—potentially creating a new wave of crossover appeal for WWE.
As Amell continues to juggle his acting career and his passion for wrestling, one thing is clear: his admiration for Logan Paul and other wrestlers who push boundaries in the ring is only growing. Whether or not Amell returns for another match, his legacy as one of the first true celebrity wrestlers in WWE is firmly intact. However, with the allure of the spotlight and his enduring friendship with Cody Rhodes, the door remains open for another chapter in his wrestling journey.
