The ongoing legal battle between Vince McMahon and Janel Grant has reached a new chapter with McMahon’s recent legal maneuver. On July 16th, Janel Grant’s legal team submitted a pre-action discovery petition targeting Dr. Carlon Colker and his clinic, Peak Wellness, Inc. This filing is part of Grant’s broader lawsuit against McMahon, alleging that she was coerced into undisclosed medical treatments by McMahon in 2019.
The lawsuit, originally filed in January, contains serious accusations. Grant alleges that McMahon orchestrated a situation in which she was coerced into participating in sexual activities with McMahon and a physical therapist from an “Alternative Clinic.” These claims include accusations of forced sexual acts, which Grant asserts were part of a broader pattern of abuse and exploitation.
In response to the recent petition, McMahon’s legal team has filed a motion seeking to lift a previously imposed court stay on the proceedings. This motion argues that the stay has been violated by Grant’s latest actions, which McMahon’s lawyers describe as a “flagrant violation” of the court’s orders.
The motion, which was filed to address what McMahon’s team calls Grant’s breach of the federal Stay Order, includes an excerpt stating:
“Mr. McMahon now asks the Court for a limited lifting of the stay to permit the filing and adjudication of his Motion to Enforce the Court’s Stay Order.”
McMahon’s lawyer elaborated on the situation in a statement provided to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomincs. The lawyer criticized Grant for what they describe as an attempt to gain an unfair advantage by pursuing discovery in a separate state action:
“Today’s motion is in response to Ms. Grant’s flagrant violation of the federal Stay Order. After telling the Federal Court that she would pause her lawsuit, Ms. Grant immediately violated the Stay Order seeking one-sided discovery for her own benefit. Her lawyer told the media that the information sought in the new Connecticut state action is ‘to assist in our claims in the federal action.’ We are asking the federal Court to ensure that Plaintiff abides by the Court’s order and if she does not that civil contempt and financial sanctions may result.”
This latest legal development comes amidst a high-profile and complex lawsuit filed by Grant against McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE. The suit, which alleges sexual assault and sex trafficking, also indirectly implicates Brock Lesnar, despite his not being named directly in the filings.
As the legal proceedings continue, both sides are preparing for further courtroom battles. McMahon’s attempt to lift the stay and address the alleged violations of court orders will be closely watched as the case progresses. The outcome of this motion could have significant implications for how the lawsuit unfolds and for the broader legal context surrounding Grant’s allegations.
