WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry recently opened up about his relationship with Bret and Owen Hart, shedding light on their exceptional talent and unparalleled sense of humor. Henry, who started his WWE career in 1996, shared fond memories of his close bond with the Hart brothers, especially Owen, on a recent episode of “Six Feet Under” with Mark Calaway.
Mark Henry emphasized that while the wrestling world acknowledges the in-ring prowess of Bret and Owen Hart, their comedic genius often went unnoticed. Henry believes that in today’s wrestling industry, which heavily focuses on entertainment, both brothers would have thrived and become even more successful.
“Owen would be the most entertaining dude in wrestling today, because now it’s really entertainment. There’s a comedic element to it; there’s never been nobody funnier than Owen Hart,” Henry said. “I’m telling you, they would be so over today, nobody would be remotely close. There was no such thing as ‘Jackass,’ there was no such thing as ‘Punk’d,’ they were doing that way back, way back. Bro, they would be so rich.”
Henry’s admiration for Owen’s humor is evident as he recounts several hilarious and memorable backstage pranks. One of the standout stories involved Owen bringing barnyard animals, including chickens, goats, and a pig, into Vince McMahon’s office. When McMahon tried to find the prankster, Owen simply claimed, “he wasn’t even there,” leaving everyone in stitches.
Beyond their humor, Henry also spoke about the guidance Owen provided him during the challenging early days of his career. He recalled a specific incident where Owen helped him navigate the locker room politics and tensions, including a time when Henry was so frustrated that he threatened to kill Shawn Michaels.
“Owen taught me how to deal with the locker room properly,” Henry shared. “He was always there with advice and support. He knew how to handle situations with grace and humor, which is something I’ve carried with me throughout my career.”
Reflecting on the legacy of the Hart brothers, Henry expressed his belief that their combination of technical skill, charisma, and comedic timing would have made them even bigger stars in the current wrestling landscape. “They had it all,” Henry said. “In today’s WWE, where entertainment value is as crucial as wrestling ability, Bret and Owen would have been top-tier superstars, making fortunes and captivating audiences worldwide.”
Henry’s stories offer a heartfelt glimpse into the lives of Bret and Owen Hart, painting a picture of two immensely talented and genuinely funny individuals who left an indelible mark on the wrestling world. Their legacy continues to inspire and entertain fans, proving that their impact on the industry transcends generations.
