The Undertaker and Godfather, two legendary WWE Hall of Famers, have a long-standing friendship that dates back to their early days in the wrestling territories. As key members of the backstage clique known as the Bone Street Krew, their bond extends beyond the squared circle. Their camaraderie has led to numerous adventures, including one particularly memorable road trip.
Recalling the Road Trip
During a recent episode of The Undertaker’s podcast, “Six Feet Under,” the duo reminisced about a perilous journey from Nashville to Memphis, accompanied by fellow wrestlers Dirty White Boy and Dirty White Girl. The trip, intended for a wrestling show, was abruptly canceled due to an incoming snowstorm. The storm, which Taker described as the worst he had ever seen, quickly turned their drive into a life-threatening ordeal.
Godfather’s Perspective
Godfather, recounting the story, vividly described the moment he took the wheel from The Undertaker. “I take off… I went at least 10 yards, and then I think I had to swerve to hit a deer or something,” he recalled. “So I turn the wheel. The car started spinning. Thank god I saved that deer’s life. And because of the spinning, I tried to correct it, tried to oversteer, and somehow we ended up in a ditch.”
According to Godfather, his quick reaction to avoid the deer was the catalyst for the car’s dangerous spin and eventual slide into a ditch. His narrative painted a picture of a hero saving a deer at the expense of their safety.
Undertaker’s Perspective
The Undertaker, however, remembered the incident quite differently. With a smirk, he refuted Godfather’s version of events. “There was no deer,” he asserted. “Just to clarify… there was no deer. Absolutely no deer. It was like a scene in a movie. We’re like this… from the road to the ditch, the car, the front right wheel is not touching anything. The car… it’s just teetering. I had to go out through the driver’s side so that the car did not flip into the ditch.”
Taker’s recollection suggested that the spin and subsequent ditching were purely due to the slippery conditions and possibly Godfather’s overzealous driving rather than any wildlife encounter.
The Aftermath
Despite the harrowing experience, the two legends emerged unscathed, their friendship and sense of humor intact. The story serves as a testament to the unpredictable and often dangerous life on the road for professional wrestlers, especially during the territory days when long drives and rough conditions were common.
A Bond Beyond the Ring
Their differing accounts of the same event highlight not only their strong personalities but also the deep bond they share. Whether Godfather’s heroics saved a deer or not, the incident has become a cherished, albeit contentious, part of their shared history.
The Undertaker and Godfather’s camaraderie is a significant part of their legacy in professional wrestling. Their ability to look back and laugh at such close calls underscores the resilience and brotherhood that defined their careers. As fans, we get a glimpse into the personal stories and experiences that shaped these larger-than-life characters, reminding us that behind the personas are real people with rich histories and enduring friendships.
