As WWE continues to expand its roster and storylines across its three main brands, the number of active championships is also on the rise. Currently, WWE Raw and SmackDown each boast four titles, NXT has six, and there are the WWE Women’s Tag Team and WWE Speed Championships that float between brands. Despite these 16 active titles, WWE is reportedly planning to add two more to its women’s division.
New Titles for the Women’s Division
Rumors have been circulating about the introduction of a WWE United States and an Intercontinental Championship specifically for the women’s division. This speculation has been confirmed by renowned wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer on “Wrestling Observer Radio.”
“Somebody texted me and just goes, ‘It’s being reported out there that they’re going to create women’s U.S. and Intercontinental titles,'” Meltzer shared. “I was basically told that is in fact what is being talked about. So there you go, two more championships coming, one on each brand.”
Impact on the Wrestling Landscape
The introduction of these new titles comes at a time when wrestling fans are already voicing concerns about an overabundance of championships. Comparisons have been made to the period at the end of the Invasion angle when both WWE and WCW belts were featured on television before the latter were eventually phased out.
Meltzer also noted that AEW President Tony Khan might feel pressured to introduce more titles to his roster as a countermeasure, although Meltzer himself believes that this is not necessarily a beneficial strategy.
“We don’t need more championships, but that is the thing is that they just keep adding championships,” Meltzer remarked. “The one difference now between then and now is that they’re in a position where nothing they do is going to hurt them, as long as it’s this hot, but I don’t think we need more championships.”
WWE’s Current Titles
The current distribution of WWE championships across its brands is as follows:

Stephen’s Insight
The addition of these new titles could further enhance the depth of the women’s division, offering more opportunities for talent to shine. However, it also risks diluting the significance of existing championships. Balancing the number of titles with meaningful storylines and rivalries will be crucial for WWE to maintain its momentum and avoid the pitfalls of oversaturation.
